Good Night Is Not a Greeting

Is “good night” a greeting? It’s “NO”. Absolutely, NOT.   Many of my students were confused and of course they don’t understand the Lewoleba Port, Lembata, NTT use of “ good night ”. Most of them think that it is a greeting. So, they greet me before sending their presentations; “Good night Mr. I was like, what the heck?😏😣 “Good night” (said with a falling inflection) is a shorthand way of saying “Have a good night”., which is a farewell, not a greeting: something you say on parting, wishing the other well. So, now you know and don’t say it as a greeting anymore. English Greetings are; Good morning ( selamat pagi mulai dari 12.01am - 11.59am). Good Noon ( selamat tengah hari; yakni tepat jam 12 tapi ini jarang digunakan). Good afternoon ( selamat sore, dimulai dari jam 12.00pm - 5.59pm).  Good evening ( selamat malam; mulai dari jam 6.00pm - 11.59am).
